China is a huge market for mobile games and
various services and, despite the lower purchasing power, it might soon
overcome the US in terms of iOS revenue. Back in Q1 2015, the country
became the world's largest market for Apple, at least when talking about
the amount of apps downloaded via App Store.
Earlier
in 2016, app store analytics firm App Annie unveiled their expectations
for China, saying this market would become the iOS market leader in
terms of revenue by the end of the year. That did not happen yet, but
China has just left Japan behind and grabbed the second place when
talking about iOS-generated revenue. The same source reveals that
China’s iOS revenue grew more than two times from Q1 2015 to Q2 2015, an
impressive growth driven mainly by in-app purchases.
In
the other camp, while Google Play downloads were 1.5 times more than
iOS downloads in 2015, Apple still managed to lead in terms of revenue.
Even more, the US market still leads China by roughly 30 percent, so
this battle will surely be an interesting one to watch through 2016, at
least.
